| Student Council Elect New Officials |

The students of Admas University College Hargeisa Campus herein Somaliland had elected new Student Council officials on Thursday 16, 04/2009 at the Library hall of the University. In a three hours time election, a Council consisting of 48 members (two representative students from each section) by 22 votes Khalid Addan Abdi, a According to Khalid’s view his prayer has been proved true more over he went on remarking that he was much indebted for the opportunity he has been offered by the organizers. His especial thankfulness also went to Mr. Teshome, head of the Student and Social Affairs. Finally, he greatly appreciated and honored the wonderful job that has been managed by the campaign organizers. And lastly he wined up addressing that the time of rivalry has come to an end and urging his running candidates to work with him being hand and gloves for the interest of the wider student population. In the end he was warmly welcomed and congratulated by the running peers who expressed their willingness to collaborate with him. The second round of the election for the post of vice presidency was tight and an amazing one. This is so because amongst the three running nominees two of them were females besides Aisha Ahmed Khamiis, from the ICT department won the position of vice presidency with the difference of fewer votes against the running candidates. The Election Process The 48 members of the new Council appeared at the venue around 10am with the main objective of voting for the officials of the Council. On this occasion the president of the university Mr. Ahmed Tahir Mohamed on his keynote address to members of the council and independent election observers prior to the election. In his speech he pointed out the objective and the importance of establishing the Students Council. He remarked it serves as abridge between the management and the students to promote and maintained harmonious relations within the entire community of the university and he added that some potential problems and misunderstandings might be resolved with the joint cooperative efforts. Mr. Ahmed strongly criticized those students involved on the attitude of tribalism and advocated the ideas of mutual respect and tolerance among students. And next a three minute speech was delivered by each of the candidates. The organizing committee then distributed voting format for the council members to secretly vote the favorite candidate whom they wish to elect. Finally to insure the transparency of the election, the organizing committee counted the number of votes in front of the council members, picking up one ballot paper from rectangular shaped voting box at a time. In the meantime reading it aloud the written name of the candidates and printing it on the white board in front of the audiences. All in all, the whole elections process was really a wonder to be held for it was a free, fair, smooth and exemplary one. |
